Tanusree Shankar!
(তনুশ্রী শঙ্কর)
Tanusree Shankar needs no introduction.
A danseuse of international repute, Tanusree Shankar, is the choreographer and the chief inspiration of the troupe bearing her name. Tanusree, who was trained for seven years under Amala Shankar, has developed a kind of choreography, which speaks to, and appeals to, audiences worldwide.
Her choreography is not a combination of classical dances, but is outstanding and original, giving concrete shape to the music that inspires it, and is based on the Shankar technique of "New Dance," following the path shown by Uday Shankar. She now leads the Tanusree Shankar Dance Company, and is one of the leading exponents of contemporary dance forms in India. She has evolved her own modern idiom by marrying the grace and beauty of traditional Indian dances with the soul of modern western ballet expressions. She has been inspired as much by her illustrious lineage as she has been by the timeless beauty of folk and regional dance forms of India.
