Amyt Datta...the man with magic fingers

Amyt Datta is a rock guitarist, composer and music producer extraordinaire. He commands an almost demigod status amongst guitar fans all over India and is considered one of the most innovative and talented guitarists in the world today. Every musician worth his melody wants a piece of him but not without reason. Try but you may not spot another who can wrench magic from the fretboard the way Amyt Datta can. It is no surprise then that is music circles he is also known as “Magic Fingers”!

Amyt Datta toured extensively with rock band Shiva in the eighties and nineties and now composes and plays for experimental rock band Pink Noise, pop-band Skinny Alley and increasingly with Anjan & Neel Dutt on their projects while still finding time to work on his solo projects. In 2011 Amyt Datta appeared as a lead guitarist in the National Award winning movie – Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona directed by Anjan Dutt.

He has played in prestigious rock and jazz concerts all over India and around the world to tremendous fanfare and acclaim. He has also collaborated with just about every famous musician and band you can think of starting with Pt. Viswa Mohan Bhatt to Louiz Banks, Bikram Ghosh to George Brooks.

The road ahead in Amyt’s own words – “I want to keep doing music my way”. This describes Amyt-da in a nut shell – it has all been about what sounded right, seemed right without ever having to compromise. And why not, for someone like Amyt-da who has won more than just his stripes.
