About the Band
Dohar is a musical troupe of significant repute, and a platform for cultural activists, who consider this world to be a musical bonanza. The members of Dohar have set out to energize the world with the power of folk tunes, especially with those from greater Bengal and the northeastern states of India. They characterize themselves as "an endless journey of music having strong connections with the root, on one hand, and going beyond all boundaries, on the other."
In Dohar's repertoire, there are more than six thousand folk songs from the different part of India and Bangladesh!
Formed in 1999, Dohar gained recognition very rapidly and won a number of national accolades within the first six years of its existence. Today, Dohar is an enormously popular musical troupe, whose dedication to authenticity and the folk tradition remains pristine in the face of eroding musical values.
Here is a link to their own website, where you can read much more about them, and listen to music segments and see videos.
